Wheelbase Fred Whitton Challenge 2022

Jonathan Gold completed the Fred Whitton charity cycle challenge on what was a stunning Spring day in the Lake District.  He rode with Justin Wilson and Peter Land from Atkin Chambers, and Simon Foster from Vinci.  Atkin Chambers  kindly hosted the trip.

The Fred Whitton Challenge is a 112 mile sportive around the Lake District, and is considered to be among the toughest sportive routes in the country, taking in the climbs of Kirkstone, Honister, Newlands, and the infamous Hardknott passes.  The event raises money for MacMillan Nurses, the Mountain Rescue and various youth cycling projects.

Jonathan completed the ride in just over 9 hours, which was not too bad for a desk bound solicitor in his fifties (although the winner rode it in a remarkable 5 hours and 36 minutes).
